As early as 1994, at the initiative of then APTS President Dr. William Menzies, the administration and faculty began discussions on the concept of the center. The department was initially called the Asia Pacific Center for the Advancement of Leadership (APCALM). In 2004, the department's name was changed to the Global Missions Center (GMC).
GMC exists to serve as the missions empowerment and short-term missional leadership training hub of APTS. It organizes mission outreach for APTS, runs seminars and conferences, and facilitates short-term ministry training programs to equip and empower missionaries and church leaders.
GMC seeks to be a Spirit-empowered and cutting-edge center that develops missional leaders to faithfully and effectively fulfill Christ’s global mandate. It partners with churches and agencies to advance the development of missiological and leadership strategies and approaches based on Pentecostal theology and practice with an emphasis on the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
GMC organizes an annual Mission Week and Convention each October to raise mission awareness, cultivate a passion for the lost, and mobilize students for mission and cross-cultural engagement during their time of study at APTS.
GMC provides APTS students with valuable hands-on experience and learning opportunities to enhance their missional ministry and cross-cultural exposure and holistic leadership formation.
GMC seeks to be a leading-edge center for all Asia Pacific Assemblies of God churches, mission agencies, and international ministries for the continual equipping of missionaries and church leaders for impactful ministries.
MCAP is a ten-day intensive training program designed to equip key children’s ministry leaders from across the Asia Pacific to teach the next generation to know and put their hope in God.
This program is APTS’ partnership with the Chinese Church that features 3 weeks of intensive training to develop leadership for China. The programs allows 20 student and 70 leaders to study at APTS under a special scholarship.
Conducted for six weeks each year from April through May in cooperation with Global Initiatives and the Center for Ministry to Muslims (CMM) in the USA. Instructors are outstanding Islamic scholars and missionaries from around the world.
The Institute of Church Action on Poverty Studies is a one-week intensive training that empowers community development workers, NGOs, and church approach of ministry toward the transformation of individual and communities.
